On Monday, April 20, Governor McMaster announced accelerateSC, an economic revitalization plan for the state that will be coordinated by a special COVID-19 advisory team. This team will make immediate, intermediate, and long-term recommendations to the governor for revitalizing and expanding South Carolina’s economy while protecting the health of South Carolina citizens. Christian Soura, Vice President of Policy & Finance at SCHA, will serve on the advisory team, as will MUSC President Dr. David Cole.
Before arriving at SCHA, Soura served as the director of the SC Department of Health & Human Services (SCDHHS) and, before that, was the Deputy Chief of Staff for Budget and Policy under Governor Nikki Haley, where he was the lead author of the state’s executive budget and many of the administration’s major proposals.
As a member of the advisory team task force, Soura will represent the state’s hospitals as the group uses healthcare and medical data to come with immediate, intermediate and long-term recommendations on the response, protection, governance, resources and information components of the plan protective protocols, testing, and contract tracing strategies, approaching to improving the supply of personal protective equipment, and other practical responses suitable for implementation. The governor will also be designating a state agency to coordinate each of the revitalization components, with other identified state agencies that will assist. The “Protection” team will coordinate with the Department of Health and Environmental Control and be supported by other state agencies and universities.
