Celebrating South Carolina Nursing Excellence

Palmetto Gold, an annual statewide nursing recognition program of the South Carolina Nurses Foundation, celebrates the valuable contributions nurses make to patient care in our state. Each year, 100 nurses are selected for their excellence in nursing practice and commitment to the profession. These nurses are typically honored at the Palmetto Gold Gala. Proceeds raised from the Gala go to support nursing scholarships to students around the state.

Unfortunately, that annual celebration of South Carolina’s true healthcare heroes was once again postponed, with the delta surge of the COVID-19 pandemic made it impossible for us to gather to recognize these tremendous nurses. Despite no large-scale in-person gala, SCHA celebrates the work of these nurses by sharing this video, produced by USC professor David Cutler. The video emerged from a project called Celebrating Local Heroes, honoring South Carolina-based workers and their efforts during the COVID-19 pandemic. The video features a heartfelt message from Michelle Logan-Owens, COO at McLeod Regional Medical Center and member of the SCHA board of trustees and is a fitting tribute and thank you to nurses. The photos and videos also feature SC health professionals and nurses, including the 2020 Palmetto Gold recipients.

We encourage all South Carolinians to share this video on social and thank a healthcare professional for their heroic efforts, now more than ever.
