In honor of National Health Care Supply Chain Week, SCHA is highlighting members of the SC Society of Healthcare Supply Chain, a professional membership group of the Association.
Gary W. Lee is the OR Specialist for Midlands and Upstate SC at Cardinal Health and the Vendor-at-large for SCSHE. SCHA asked him a few questions about the field and his service to it in South Carolina.
How many years have you worked in supply chain management?
37 years in total. 33 years in supply chain sales, 4 years in lab sales.
What has been your biggest opportunity in the supply chain profession?
Early on, seeing the need to put a vendor on [the SCSHE] Board to help with the annual meeting and to represent their voice. We now have vendors joining the organization which has helped with membership and made a large financial gain.
We are all in this together–some as suppliers, and some as customers, with one common goal to provide the best patient care possible. We can all make a difference we (SCSHE) can accomplish any task if we work together. I believe we have proven that when we look at becoming a Diamond member of our national organization. During these difficult times, just look can how we have come together to overcome some nearly impossible tasks.
What’s the best part of your job?
To know that we make a difference in saving people’s lives and making a positive influence in their lives. To be an important part of the community in which we live and helping people improve their lives. We truly do make a difference in people’s lives.
