New Faces Join HAPAC Board

In a time when our political landscape seems more divided than ever, it is critical that South Carolina’s hospitals and health systems have a voice in the election process. The Hospital Association Political Action Committee (HAPAC) serves as that voice for our provider community, working to elect hospital-friendly candidates committed to a better state of health for South Carolina.

HAPAC is a nonpartisan political action committee that supports both Republican and Democratic candidates who prioritize policy and legislation that helps advance the mission of our hospitals and health systems at the state and federal level. As we approach another election year in 2022 featuring races for Governor and all South Carolina seats in the U.S. House of Representatives, the HAPAC Board is excited to welcome new leaders to help guide our decisions.

  • Carl Lindquist is Director of Strategic Communications and Advocacy at Tidelands Health. Under his leadership, Tidelands Health achieved 270% of their HAPAC fundraising goal in 2020 and recruited new contributors in a time when fundraising events were off-limits.
  • John Willingham is Divisional Vice President for Universal Health Services. He also serves on the SCHA Board and is a consistent major donor to HAPAC, giving $1000 year after year.

South Carolina will also see races for statewide constitutional offices like Attorney General and Superintendent of Education, as well as elections for the South Carolina House of Representatives in 2022. While we recognize that the COVID-19 pandemic has made it difficult to host events and solicit contributions from staff, we encourage hospitals to continue their efforts through letter campaigns and online activities if possible.

If you have any questions about HAPAC and how you can contribute, please contact Schipp Ames at sames@scha.org.
