SMART and HII Medical Clearance Webinar
In our work with the hospitals across the state implementing Emergency Psychiatry Assessment, Treatment, and Healing (EmPATH) units and EmPATH-like units, SCHA has learned of a validated and focused medical assessment tool for stability for patients presenting to EDs in behavioral health crisis, SMART. SMART stands for Suspect New Onset of Psychiatric Condition, Medical Conditions that Require Screening, Abnormal Signs, Risky Presentation, and Therapeutic Levels Needed. SMART is often used in conjunction with the Hack’s Impairment Index (HII), which assesses the degree of alcohol-impairment. Both tools are available for free and can be built into your EMR for more efficient processes. Join SCHA and MUSC as we learn more about the use of SMART and HII in emergency departments on August 29 at from 12:00 to 1:00. Registration is not needed; just join virtually here at noon on August 29. Learn more at www.smartmedicalclearance.org. Contact Melanie Matney with any questions.
