Alternative Transportation Webinar
During the 2024 legislative session, the SC Department of Mental Health received $2.54 million in non-recurring funds to expand the Alternative Transportation program that transports nonviolent adults who are the subject of an involuntary psychiatric emergency admission statewide. Transports are provided by a private contractor utilizing specially equipped unmarked vehicles and drivers with extensive mental health training wearing professional civilian attire. Now in its third year, the program is in all 46 counties. While the program does not replace the need for law enforcement to provide some patient transports, it has proven to significantly reduce the number of law enforcement transports and provides a more appropriate means of transportation that alleviates the stigma and reduces patient anxiety and stress for those nonviolent patients who have committed no crime. Please join SCHA, DMH, Allied Universal, the SC Sherriff’s Association, the SC EMS Association and other partners on an educational webinar on Thursday, October 3 from 2:00 to 3:00. There is no need to register; just click here to join the meeting. The meeting will be recorded. That link, along with relevant information, will be shared as a follow up.
