SC Human Trafficking Task Force Launches Healthcare Roundtables
The South Carolina Human Trafficking Task Force, a group chaired by the state Attorney General’s Office, is developing a new framework for responding to the crime of human trafficking that is centered entirely around the healthcare community, equipping providers with the resources necessary to recognize and support victims in clinical settings.
Because healthcare providers are often the first—and sometimes the only—professionals to interact with trafficking victims, a coordinated clinical response is critical. To translate these best practices into actionable protocols, SCHA and the broader hospital community are partnering with the Task Force to participate in a series of regional Human Trafficking Healthcare Roundtables throughout September and October.
These interactive sessions will bring together healthcare professionals and key partners to review the new guide and discuss its practical application. Crucially, the primary focus of the roundtables will be gathering direct input from attendees. This feedback will directly inform the development of a standardized, statewide protocol for identifying, responding to, and referring patients who may be experiencing trafficking.
