Mental Health First Aid Instructor Training

SCHA Headquarters

As part of its comprehensive effort to improve the healthcare work experience, SCHA’s WHY initiative has been offering a series of Mental Health First Aid (MHFA) at Work certification trainings to SCHA member hospitals throughout 2024. In an effort to add an extra layer of sustainability to this work, SCHA is offering an Instructor training for hospital representatives aspiring to teach Mental Health First Aid to their workforce and communities on a regular basis.

Certification:
Instructor certification results from a 3-day training that presents the Mental Health First Aid course and provides in-depth instruction on facilitating the curriculum. The training includes self-paced pre-work, a written exam and a presentation that evaluates each candidate’s ability to present the Mental Health First Aid course to a variety of audiences. Once certified, Instructors must teach the course at least three times per year to maintain their certification. Instructors teach from a national curriculum, tailor discussions to their participants and compile a list of local resources for help. Instructors will create, market and coordinate their classes while supporting their learners along the way. Mental Health First Aid USA will provide ongoing technical assistance and marketing support to certified Instructors to help them disseminate the course in their communities.

Cost:
The cost for the training is $500 per participant, plus any associated travel expenses.
