SCHA Distributes $100,000 to Frontline Healthcare Workers Impacted by COVID-19
The South Carolina Hospital Association (SCHA) is pleased to announce the distribution of $100k in grants directly to frontline healthcare staff in the state’s hospitals and health systems impacted by COVID-19.
Throughout this historic pandemic, brave doctors, nurses, and other essential healthcare workers have put their own lives on the line to protect patients and communities. The SCHA Foundation has been working with multiple organizations since March to find ways that we could provide direct support to these healthcare heroes, particularly those especially impacted by COVID-19.
Thanks to partnerships with Southern Tide, The RBC Heritage PGA Golf Tournament, and NFL star Christian McCaffrey’s 22 and You program, the SCHA Foundation has successfully issued $1,000 grants to 100 frontline healthcare workers across the state. The grant selection review committee included members from the South Carolina Healthcare Human Resources Association, the South Carolina Organization of Nurse Leaders, and the South Carolina Society for Hospital Fund Development who selected from a pool of more than 2500 state hospital and health system employee applicants.
The committee’s review process prioritized hospital employee applicants who experienced a financial or other personal impact as a direct result of the pandemic. Applications were received from hospital employees in 26 facilities across the state and represented a broad range of clinical frontline and healthcare service workers, from pharmacy technicians to security officers and food service staff.
“We are proud to provide these essential healthcare employees in South Carolina’s hospitals and health systems with a small token of gratitude for their service to this state,” said Melanie Matney, President of the SCHA Foundation. “And we will continue to look for ways that we can help and support the state’s hospital community as they battle on the frontlines of the COVID-19 pandemic.”
The SCHA Foundation is an independent, not-for-profit 501(C)(3) organization that supports the mission of SCHA by fostering and accelerating the collective impact of hospitals, health systems and other partners to create a better state of health for South Carolina. The Foundation works directly with funders and partners to generate backing for initiatives that improve health and healthcare in our state and support the healthcare workforce.
