Postpartum Mental Health

One recent study found that 1 in 7 women may experience postpartum depression in the year after giving birth. While postpartum depression generally lasts 3-6 months, this varies based on a number of factors, and it’s estimated that 50% of mothers with postpartum depression are not diagnosed by a health professional.

SC DMH has a number of mental health resources available for anyone dealing with postpartum depression. There is also a free confidential support helpline, 1-833-TLC-MAMA, available for any pregnant or new moms who need support. Visit www.postpartum.net and www.womenshealth.gov/talkingPPD to learn more.
