Hospital Improvement Innovation Network

Since 2011, SCHA has partnered with the healthcare improvement company Premier Inc. as part of a regional educational collaborative under the Center for Medicare and Medicaid Services’ “Partnership for Patients” program. Designed to prevent unnecessary re-hospitalizations, infections and other issues within hospitals, the program aims to help providers learn new solutions and explore strategies as a team to provide better care at a lower cost to patients.

Originally funded under the Hospital Engagement Network (HEN) efforts, the 42 Premier hospitals in South Carolina have been part of the larger collaborative meeting reduction goals on a host of key metrics ranging from surgical site infections and catheter-associated urinary tract infections (CAUTIs) to early elective deliveries and pressure ulcers. SCHA’s unique partnership with Premier gives participating South Carolina hospitals access to healthcare experts and resources, as well as valuable state and national benchmarking data.

Since September 2016, SCHA and Premier have continued their work in the new HIIN (Hospital Improvement & Innovation Network) in an effort that builds upon the collective momentum of the HENs and Quality Improvement Organizations to reduce patient harm and readmissions. Hospitals in the South Carolina Affinity Group have won numerous national awards for quality improvement across the board. This current contract is part of a broader effort to transform our healthcare system into one that works better for the American people and for the Medicare program.
